Corsham Foodbank

This week I attended a meeting on behalf of the Town council of The Corsham Foodbank run by the Corsham Churches Together movement. It is a sign of the times that as people enter financial hardship such things are necessary and has my full support, in fact I have offered to help out in delivering food from collection points to the store in St. Aldhelms Church.

Such people who may be in need of its services could be those recently made unemployed, off work through sickness, discharged from hospital or discharged from the Armed Forces. To qualify people would have to enter the system via social services or housing associations to be given a voucher which is exchanged for a food parcel from the food bank. By ensuring that people enter the system before they receive their vouchers makes sure that they receive the on going help needed.

Update: Food can be donated at any Corsham church, the Tourist information centre, The Co-Op or at St. Aldhelms on a Saturday morning when the food bank is open. Please supply tinned and packaged goods with a long shelf life, no fresh produce. Cash can also be donated and volunteers are welcome to pack, mark up, meet & greet etc.

  1. The foodbank , although a tragedy that it's come to this, is a good idea, our community should pull together. Would it be possible to publish details of how to contribute to it please Michael? Many thanks.

  2. Ok, I have checked out the details and got a contact for St Aldhelms, I will be contributing this week as early as I can. This feels like the right thing to do, proper tangible help for real people in our own community in need. Fantastic. Thank you to whoever thought it up and all those involved in its birth. Is there any way from your position with the council that this might be promulgated to more folk?, I am assuming that the churches are already advertising to the congregations but I meant to a wider part of the townsfolk. I will have words with my colleagues at work for example. I truly hope this takes off and helps some of those less fortunate people in these straitened times. Thanks Mick.
